EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Julie earned her Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health from Wright State University. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, with a concentration in Psychology, at the University of Pittsburgh.

Julie is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with advanced trauma training in Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®). As a TBRI® Practitioner, Julie works with foster and adoptive parents, as well as supporting parents and children from hard places. TBRI® was founded by Dr. Karyn Purvis at The Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development and utilized by Empowered to Connect and Show Hope.

Julie is a Developmental and Relational Trauma Therapist (DARTT) with extensive training in the work of Pia Mellody. Healing Our Core Issues supports clients in a psychodynamic counseling approach that includes family of origin work, attachment theory, mindfulness, and somatic experience.

Julie is Certified in EMDR Therapy, a modality used specifically for healing unprocessed trauma in the autonomic nervous system. Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing has been extensively research based and proven effective in treating trauma for over thirty years.

Julie is an EMDR Certified Therapist. An EMDR Certified Therapist has engaged in at least 20 hours of consultation with an EMDR Consultant for EMDR and has practiced their skills with at least 25 different clients in at least 50 EMDR sessions. An EMDR Certified Therapist has voluntarily met standards of consultation, clinical practice, and continuing education to provide EMDR therapy. An EMDR Certified Therapist is committed to fulfill ethical standards and is engaged in continuing education. To maintain this certification, a therapist must continue to satisfy the EMDRIA requirement including completion of continuing education requirements and adherence to ethical standards.
